Snakehead

Channa Micropeltes Channa Pleurophthalma
Temperature: 72º - 78º Temperature: 72º - 78º
Diet:  Mostly live foods but can be trained to eat pellets.  I feed mine a half of a chicken breast once a week or feeders.  Sometimes i give it earthworm and dried krill.  When they eat they coil their body into an "S" shape and strike like a snake hitting a mouse.  Diet:  Plankton, Beef Heart and some pellet.  I got them very small and started them out with brine shrimp.
Length: 3' Length: 18"
Compatibility:   I have affectionately named mine "The Sea Monster".  In Thailand they are a sport fish with a reputation for giving a good fight when hooked.  When they become adults they will kill any other fish in the tank. Compatibility:  They are currently in the Gold Managuense tank.  My experience with Snakeheads has been that they become more aggressive as they age.
Comments:  They have an accessory breathing apparatus that enables them to be out of water for some time outside of the tank.  I came home from vacation once to find a two foot specimen missing from the tank.  I located it six feet from the tank under a dresser. Comments:  The photos of the adults I have seen show them having beautiful coloration.  I hope to move them into the pond when they get to be 12".
Total in my Collection:  1 Adult, 1 Juvenile.  Total in my Collection:  3 Juveniles.
